Marcus Garvey was a 20 century icon, human rights champion, and pan-African statesman who founded the largest global confraternity of African descendants in history and posthumously became the first national hero of Jamaica. On September 22-23, 1919 Garvey gave his first public lectures to a mass audience in Philadelphia when he spoke at The People’s Church located at 15th & Christian Street in the historic Black Doctors Row. This location is now occupied by Ebenezer Seventh-day Adventist Church of Philadelphia. Marcus Garvey UNIA organization will honor Ebenezer and the historical building used to bring freedom to black people on September 20, 2025 at 11 AM.
